Promoting Vietnam-Netherlands Parliament to Parliament relationship
From 3rd to 7th June 2007, a delegation from the National Assembly of Vietnam headed by Vice President H.E. Mr. Nguyen Van Yeu paid a working visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Madame President of the House of Representatives of the States General H.E. Mrs. Gerdi A. Verbeet cordially received Mr. Nguyen Van Yeu. The delegation had meetings with Vice President of the House of Representatives H.E. Mr. J. Ten Hoopen, the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The delegation also visited the Dutch Parliament office and a dairy farm of the Friesian Agro Consultancy, who runs a project to raise dairy cows in Lam Dong province of Vietnam.
During the talk with H.E. Mr. Nguyen Van Yeu, Mrs. Gerdi A. Verbeet and Mr. J. Ten Hoopen highly appreciated the recent achievements of renovation in Vietnam and the relationship of friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between the Netherlands and Vietnam, including the relations between the two parliaments. The Dutch side confirmed the importance that the Dutch Parliament attaches to the relationship with Vietnam that it wished to further promote. The President and Vice President of the House of Representatives showed great interests in the Vietnamese history, economy, culture as well as recent developments in Vietnam.
Vice President Nguyen Van Yeu briefed his partners on Vietnam’s current situation, the foundation and development of Vietnam’s National Assembly. He also expressed sincere thanks to the Dutch Government and Parliament for the support extended to Vietnam’s renovation and nation-building through various practical and effective projects in Vietnam. Vice President Nguyen Van Yeu wished the bilateral relations between the two countries and parliaments develop more comprehensively. On this occasion, H.E. Mrs. Gerdi A. Verbeet invited H.E. Mr. Nguyen Van Yeu to sign in the Commemorative Book for guests of honour. During working meetings, two sides also shared experience in parliamentary legislation and organisation.
During his trip, H.E. Mr. Nguyen Van Yeu visited the Embassy of Vietnam to the Netherlands and had a codial talk with the Embassy staff and their families. Vice President Nguyen Van Yeu and the delegation also met with representatives from overseas Vietnamese community in the Netherlands who expressed their sentiments to the Fatherland and wishes for further development of bilateral relations between Vietnam and the Netherlands.
This is the highest level visit of the Vietnam National Assembly to the Netherlands so far, thus contributing to the better understanding between the two parliaments and countries. Ambassador of Vietnam to the Netherlands H.E. Mr. Ha Huy Thong joined the delegation in their official activities./.
