Vietnamese tea introduced in the Netherlands

Under the framework of the national priority programme for trade promotion in 2007, a delegation of enterprises under Vietnam Tea Association, such as the Future Generation Co., Tonkin Coffee and Tea Company, Highland Tea Company, Viet Tea Ceremony…, visited the Netherlands from 6 to 10 June 2007 for market research, partnership establishment and promotion of tea export to the Netherlands.
Members of the delegation had talks with a number of Dutch enterprises, who are potential tea importers (bulk and processed products) and distributors in the Netherlands, EU and the world over. At the Port of Rotterdam office, they had field-trips to some warehouses, berths, modern storages and logistic equipments which add value to commodities, especially for bulk commodities, tea packaging, purification, mixing, classification, flavouring and deliveries. On 8 June 2007, with the support from the Vietnam Embassy and Commercial Office in the Netherlands, the delegation and the Chamber of Commerce of Rotterdam co-organized a Tea Culture Show as an effort to introduce Vietnamese tea, tea ceremony, and to interact among Dutch and Vietnamese enterprises. Attendants, including leading Dutch tea companies such as L. Elink Schuurman Thee B.V, Steinweg B.V., Herman Kuijper B.V., etc. showed their interest in Vietnamese tea and ways to explore its potential, arts of tea infusing and drinking. Some of them also offered to advise and assist Vietnamese tea sector to increase its export-volume to the Netherlands and other countries through Port of Rotterdam as the world’s largest sea port.
Vietnamese tea enterprise delegates also exchanged views with their partners on market capacity, distribution channels, the Netherlands’ role as an interim-port, re-exporting agent, tea consumer in EU, the necessity of logistic services to add value to tea products in the distribution process. Some businessmen were honest and candid to point out to the limits of Vietnam tea export capacity, efforts to enhance prestige, to implement contracts, to avoid grabbing for short-term benefit, to control chemicals in tea-products in accordant with EU rules and regulations, to diversify tea products and flavours to increase the export volume and meet the demands of EU market.
This visit of Vietnam Tea Association opened a new relationship of cooperation with the Dutch Association of Tea Importer and Exporter. Practical information exchange between the two associations created new opportunities for the Vietnamese side to extend partnership with Dutch tea importers and distributors./.
